Sorry, I'm a little behind schedule. I had the opportunity to help host some great nonfarm people at the VanMannen family farm on Friday. What a great experience to see a farm through others' eyes!

This field is coming along nicely but we still have 2 days of corn planting and 2 days of soybean planting to do. We need dry, sunny, warm weather.

The corn is emerging a little yellow - nothing that some sunlight and heat can't fix. |

In a blink of an eye we have gone from having an early spring planting season to having a late planting season. We were rained out of the field on April 27th. Today is the first day back at planting since the 27th. The soil finisher went over the field tonight. Tomorrow Dad will plant this farm.

We are waiting for warmer weather and letting the predicted cold rain front to get through before starting to plant corn.
2011 Growing Season
My intention is to take a picture of the corn field on our home farm once a week and post it. That way you can follow along with the crop progress for the year. I put a test plot stake along the edge of the field this morning so I can always go back to the same spot. Hopefully my boys (meaning sons, husband, and/or father) will leave it alone. Anhydrous Ammonia applied. |
Planted |
Corn is at the spike stage. |

There is a little crusting on the Mothers Day planting but a little rain and heat will take care of that.
